Balconette restoration – St James’ square, Bath

We restored two pretty and unusual historic balconettes from a Georgian house in St James square, Bath. These balconettes date from the early 1800’s. Martin uncovered some early green paint next to the original wrought ironwork. A few sections of wrought iron were missing so we replaced with original wrought bar. A lot of the small, cone-shaped leads had rotten and had to be taken off. Martin made up a new rubber mould from one of the good ones.  He made a new lead casting pot to recreate each tiny lead one at a time. The balconettes were cleaned and then primed with Vinaprime before the individual leads were put back on. We made a short video of this process which we’ve uploaded to Youtube – CLICK to view it here.
