Camden gate restoration

This lovely set of gates were fully restored in 2012 by the team at Ironart. Take a close look at the original (pre-restoration) gates in situ – there is a fine hand-forged panel in the centre of both sides of the gate. These panels may well have originally been designed as window grilles or similar, this assumption is based on the use of fine rectangular section bar. The panels feature bolt end scrolls, which are different to the ribbon scrolls and then the agricultural-style blunt scrolls on the extreme edges of the gate. In short it was probably ‘added to’ and then ‘added to’ over time. The Ironart team retained the better quality forged gates, removing the inappropriate modern extensions. We then re-extended the gates with a set of discreet railings rather than a tubular post.

If you have a lovely old gate and want some advice about their maintenance or restoration, please get in touch with the team here at Ironart, we’d love to help.
