Ironart was involved with the team at The Newt Estate in Somerset in the early stages of the garden design and planning for the impressive hotel and gardens near Bruton here in the West Country. We were employed as metalwork specialists alongside other designers, architects and gardeners.
The Newt team commissioned us to make two large pergolas for the Parabola Maze Garden. This garden on the Newt estate is split into ‘counties’, each county featuring traditional, local varieties of apple – this corner of Somerset is famous for apple orchards and cider production. These pergolas were 10m long, 3m wide and 3m high and traditionally constructed with the round bar rails neatly wedged in to the flat frame uprights. They were then concreted in to the ground and will give years of enjoyment to visitors at the Newt Estate.
We also made 440m of espalier supports for apple trees in various different heights, together with a series of impressive rose arches. This was a large-scale prestigious project close to Ironart here in Somerset and we were really pleased to be involved.
