Ironart was invited by the team to The Newt Estate before any work started, and were employed as metalwork designers alongside the architects and gardeners. We were commissioned to make two large pergolas for the Parabola Maze Garden. This garden on the Newt estate is split into ‘counties’, each county featuring traditional, local varieties of apple. These pergolas were 10m long, 3m wide and 3m high and traditionally constructed with the round bar rails neatly wedged in to the flat frame uprights. They were then concreted in to the ground and will give years of enjoyment to visitors.
We also made 440m of espalier supports for apple trees in various different heights, together with a series of impressive rose arches. This was a large-scale prestigious project here in Somerset and we were really pleased to be involved.
